About
I was conceived in New Orleans in the winter of 1986. I have been described as 天然, which I can only translate in this context as ‘eccentric’, that is, ‘cute but weird.’ (Or weird but cute?) I love to write historical fiction with a touch of surrealism in my spare time. I love to share and listen to people’s funny stories. I love beauty: café breve, beautiful landscapes, the smell of gardenias and vanilla, down blankets, Islamic architecture, elders laughing, red desert sand, brisk sunrises, green valleys, flat roofs, the moon, old hymns and the sound of the erhu. When I was little I had an assertive pet tortoise we kept in the desert garden, and maybe in the future I’ll have a tortoise, rabbit, cat, dog, iguana, pig, or even a chinchilla.
Travels
I love to travel. I was fortunate enough to travel a lot in Western Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Thailand, and New Zealand when I was little; I am now discovering new experiences and places as I mature. In the past four years, I have studied in a girls’ school in Japan, worked on several organic farms in France, roadtripped around Hungary, Croatia, and Austria, and spent a month in Uzbekistan doing an independent study on Timurid architecture. This winter I traveled down the Costa del Sol of Spain before arriving to study for a semester in Morocco. Top Cities to visit someday: Hong Kong, Singapore, Sana’a, Ljubljana, Belgrade, Valletta, Zagreb, Tunis, Tbilisi, Vienna, Vilnius, Montreal, Buenos Aires, Manchester, Dublin, Cardiff, and Edinburgh. I wish to continue traveling all my life. I love languages, and am currently studying Japanese, French, and Arabic; in the future, I would also like to become fluent in Korean, Turkish, German, Icelandic and possibly Serbo-Croatian. I am currently teaching myself to read German and to play the duduk.
